The FHS Debate Team is part of the South Suburban Conference and the Minnesota State High School League. Competing against teams in academic policy debate both in the Twin Cities metro area, and nationally, Farmington Debate researches topics and issues both for and against the national policy debate resolution, which changes every year.* Taking that research, debaters then develop arguments and use those arguments to debate against other high school students. Debate is fast paced. It is a place where students develop their thinking and reading skills, improve their speaking and advocacy skills, and become better critical thinkers about their world. Future lawyers, professors, business leaders, educators, journalists, politicians, entertainers, and scientists started out as high school debaters, and you can too! Debate provides an opportunity to become a member of the National Speech and Debate Association and to earn a letter. The competition season is September through January.
* The 2021-2022 National Debate Resolution--- Resolved: that the United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States.
