We hope that you and your family have been enjoying the summer. Once August comes we start to kick it into high gear in preparing for the upcoming school year.  At FHS, we are looking forward to another wonderful school year. In this article you will find important information for the 2019-20 school year as well as some links that will help you and your student prepare for the school year.

The focus of our strategic plan is “creating personalized, nurturing learning environments through the purposeful integration of leading-edge technology and educational practice” for our students.  With this purpose in mind, we continue to look at our instructional strategies to provide students with access to content AND intangible skills they will need to be successful in their post-secondary choices.  We believe strongly that when students graduate from FHS they should be able to do the following:

  • Talk to adults and advocate for themselves
  • Manage time and work
  • Handle interpersonal problems and cope with ups/downs
  • Accept challenges and handle failing through perseverance/grit

Through the flexible use of time and varying instructional practices, incorporated by our staff, we believe our students will walk out of FHS not only prepared academically, but equipped with the skills needed to be successful in all postsecondary options available to FHS students.

Bus Route Information Now on Infinite Campus

Starting with the 2019-2020 school year, all bus route information for students in middle school and high school can be found by logging into your Infinite Campus Web account or through the Mobile Apps Campus Parent (for parents/guardians) and Campus Student (for students). Bus route transportation information will no longer be distributed via bus slips at the school unless a special request is made in the main office.

Having this information in Campus will allow students and their parents/guardians real-time access to your bus route number, bus stop location, and pickup/drop off times. This information is viewable in Campus now.  If you are in the app, just click on the “transportation” tab to view your child’s bus route information.

Schedule Pick-Up, Student Picture, and iPad Pick-Up Days

FHS Schedule Pick-Up days are on August 20 from 9am– 4pm and August 28 from 11:00am–7:30pm

At schedule pick-up days ALL students must get their picture taken before they can pick up their schedule or parking pass.  This is especially important this year as there will be a new check-in/out system for students that will require them to carry their student ID badge everyday.  To be clear...ALL students need to come to one of the schedule pick-up days to get their picture taken and pick-up their schedule.

Picture ordering and information can now be found online on Lifetouch's website.  Please use this link to visit: https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/pictureDayId/EVTZP93SB

iPads must also be picked up during any of the FHS Schedule Pick-Up days in the FHS Media Center.  Prior to picking up the iPad, parents must complete the iPad loan agreement and pay for the optional iPad protection plan.  This must be done via FeePay: https://farmington.feepay.com.

FHS Open House

Open House is also on Wednesday, August 28, from 3:30–7:30 pm.

During open house teachers will be in their classrooms and available to meet with students and families.

There will be an orientation session for 9th grade students and students new to FHS on August 28 from 6:00–7:00pm in the auxiliary gym.  All 9th grade and new students are encouraged to attend this session.

During the 9th grade student orientation, there will be an informational session for parents in the recital hall (also 6:00 - 7:00) focusing on how the student day at FHS looks different to better support the unique needs of all of our learners.

 Family Web Access

Prior to coming to one of the schedule pick-up days please check Family Web Access and verify that your contact and medical information is up to date.  All changes and updates are now done online by the user (you).  FHS communication will be pushed out via email to families so it is important that the school has up to date phone numbers and email addresses for all families.

If you do not have an infinite campus account or do not know what it is, please see the back of this letter for more information.

Student Lockers

All 9th and 10th graders will be assigned a school locker.  Students in 11th or 12th grade who wish to use a school locker can get one assigned by stopping into the 3rd floor office or contact Kim Chambers at 651-252-2517.

FHS Student Parking

Parking at FHS is the same as it was last year.  In 2019-20 we are issuing EAST lot permits to all juniors and seniors who pay to park on campus regardless of when they pay for their parking permit.

Parking in the east lot each day will be on a first come first serve basis until the lot is full, with all overflow going to the West lot.  All sophomores will be issued a west lot permit and cannot park in the east lot.

All vehicles must be registered and display their permit in order to park on campus other than the grace period of the first week of school.

Parking passes are paid for on FeePay, which will open up on August 12, and picked up during either of the FHS Schedule Pick-Up days. Just like last year, students will not be able to pick up their parking pass until all of their fee and fines are paid.  Students may pick up parking passes during the FHS Schedule Pick-Up Days.

Complete FHS parking regulations can be found at the link below.

Student Transportation & Busing (Including DCTC)

ALL students in grades 11 and 12 that require busing (this includes students needing transportation to DCTC for their first hour class) MUST contact Marschall Lines by phone at 651-463-8689 or by email at mlidispatch@minnesotacoaches.com or kschnack@minnesotacoaches.com to request being added to a route as soon as possible.

Marschall Lines does not route 11th or 12th graders unless families contact them directly.  If you have further questions regarding transportation please contact Marschall Lines directly.

Parent Contact Information, Consent to Publish, and Emergency Contact Form

Prior to coming to one of the schedule pick up days please check Family Web Access and verify that all contact information is correct.  If you need to make any changes you now can do that right online.  It is important that FHS has up to date phone numbers and email addresses in order to stay connected with families.  All FHS information will be pushed out via email to families so please make sure this is updated.

Parents who would like to deny their consent to publish their student’s work must also complete an online form.  This form only needs to be completed if you don’t want your students picture or work to be used publicly.

Deny Consent to Publish

Emergency Contact Information can now also be updated online using your Family Web Access account.

9th Grade Specific Information

FHS 9th grade students will again participate in a retreat on Tuesday, November 5th.  This retreat is an extension of the Link Crew activities all 9th grade students will participate in throughout the 2019-20 school year - including 9th grade orientation on Wednesday, August 28.

One other important note for 9th grade families is that FHS does not a have a supply list for students at the High School.  We recommend that you send your student with all of the normal school stuff (pencils, notebooks, folders, etc.). Your student will come home with syllabi for classes after the first day of school. If there is anything special they need for a particular class it will be listed there.

First Day of School

The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 3rd

We will continue with the tradition of running a modified schedule that day.  Buses will run their regular routes and times. 9th graders will start their day at the normal starting time of 8:20 am.  10th-12th graders with a zero hour will begin at 12:40 with all other 10th-12th graders starting at 1:05.

Students enrolled in the DCTC program will attend classes the morning of September 3rd.

9th graders will participate in our Link Crew program during the morning.  10th-12th graders riding the bus are invited to congregate in the commons or media center until 12:40.  Lunch will be served from 12:05-1:00.
