Once August comes we start to kick it into high gear in preparing for the upcoming school year.  At FHS, we are looking forward to a wonderful school year.  Here you will find important information for the 2022-23 school year as well as some links that will help you and your student prepare for the school year.

The Farmington Area Public Schools Strategic Framework is a guiding document created by staff and community stakeholders to help the school district successfully serve the needs of our community now and in the future.  Our FHS Staff, along with Superintendent Berg will also be updating our FHS Strategic and Operational Plans.

Through the flexible use of time and varying instructional practices, incorporated by our staff, we believe our students will walk out of FHS not only prepared academically, but equipped with the skills needed to be successful in all postsecondary options available to FHS students.

FHS Back to School Days - Required for all students to attend one (including Seniors for Student ID’s)

FHS Back to School days are on Tuesday, August 23 from 9am– 4pm and August 31 from 12:30pm–7:30pm

At FHS Back to School days,  ALL students must get their picture taken before they can pick up their ipad or parking pass.  This is especially important now that we have our check-in/out system for students that requires them to carry their student ID badge everyday.

iPads must also be picked up during any of the FHS Back to School days in the FHS Media Center.  Prior to picking up the iPad, parents must complete the iPad loan agreement if they did not do it in the Spring.  Students that participated in this summer's optional iPad checkout have already completed and agreed to the terms of the district 2022-23 iPad Loan Agreement using our RevTrak system. These students are set for the 2022-23 school year and may simply bring their issued iPad with them for the first day of school.

If you need to complete the iPad Loan Agreement, you can do that HERE.

NO FORMS NEEDED FOR PICTURES!  All ordering is now done digitally on the Jostens site and pictures are shipped to your home.  Visit www.jostenspix.com to explore options.  The most important thing that you will need is the Event Code, which is on the attached ordering flyer.

Questions about pictures? Please email Laura Pierce, Assistant Principal, at [email protected]

FHS Open House

Open House is on Wednesday, August 31, from 3:30–7:30 pm.

During open house teachers will be in their classrooms and available to meet with students and families.  Open house is a great time for new or returning students to explore the building, walk their schedule, practice their locker combination, and more.  Students can also get their picture taken and other “to-do” items done while they are here for Open House.

Student Schedules

Student schedules will be available on Campus Portal starting Tuesday, August 23rd at 8:00am.  We will not be making any schedule changes this year unless it was our error such as your child is missing a class or has 2 classes scheduled for the same hour.   If there is an error on your student’s schedule, please stop by the 3rd floor office during our Back to School days or contact your counselor via email or phone.

We are coming back with our same amazing crew of FHS School Counselors.  Here is an updated breakdown of which counselor supports which students:

  • Barbara Walker: Last names A-BL
  • Nathan Yager: Last names Bo-F
  • Katie Kelly: Last names G-KL
  • Alyssa Belko: Last names Km-N
  • Jerry Pfau: Last names O-Si
  • Chelsy Newman: Sk-Z

Family Web Access/Campus Portal

Campus Portal is an essential tool for you to use as a parent to keep our school records accurate so that we can communicate with you and also keep up to date with your students' progress in school.  If you don’t have access to Campus Portal please see the following link for more information to set up an Infinite Campus account: https://www.farmington.k12.mn.us/for_parents/infinite_campus

You will need to use this account to view your students schedule, attendance, bus route information, etc.  We no longer hand out hard copies of these items.  We cannot stress enough how important it is for you to have your account set up and know how to use it.

Here is a direct link to Campus Portal: https://campus.farmington.k12.mn.us/campus/portal/farmington.jsp

Student Lockers

All 9th and 10th graders will be assigned a school locker.  Students in 11th or 12th grade who wish to use a school locker can get one assigned by stopping into the 3rd floor office or contact Michelle Genske at 651-252-2517.

FHS Student Parking

As in the past, we are issuing EAST lot permits to all juniors and seniors who pay to park on campus regardless of when they pay for their parking permit.

Parking in the east lot each day will be on a first come first serve basis until the lot is full, with all overflow going to the West lot.  All sophomores will be issued a west lot permit and cannot park in the east lot.

To order and pay for your parking permit, either for 1 trimester ($55) or the full year ($130), use this link: https://farmington-k12.revtrak.net/rw-parking-hs-farmingtonThe window to order a parking pass opens Monday, August 15th.

All vehicles must be registered and display their permit in order to park on campus other than the grace period of the first week of school.

Students may pick up parking passes during the FHS Back to School Days.

Complete FHS parking regulations can be found on the FHS Website.

Any questions about parking can be directed to Jon Lund, Assistant Principal at jlund[email protected]

School Supply List

One other important note for 9th grade families is that FHS does not have a supply list for students at the High School.  We recommend that you send your student with all of the normal school stuff (pencils, notebooks, folders, headphones, etc.).  Your student will come home with syllabi for classes after the first day of school. If there is anything special they need for a particular class it will be listed there.

Student Transportation & Busing (Including DCTC)

ALL students in grades 11 and 12 that require busing (this includes students needing transportation to DCTC for their first hour class) MUST contact Marschall Lines by phone at 651-463-8689 or email at [email protected] to request being added to a route as soon as possible.

Marschall Lines does not route 11th or 12th graders unless families contact them directly.  If you have further questions regarding transportation please contact Marschall Lines directly.

CareerTech Classes at DCTC (Dakota County Technical College)

FHS students in a CTE class at DCTC will attend that class everyday.  Students have the option of driving themselves or riding the FHS bus out to DCTC.  If riding the bus, they must contact Marschall Lines by phone at 651-463-8689, or by email at [email protected] to let them know.  The bus going to DCTC each day will depart right at the beginning of the day at 8:15am by the flagpoles on the first floor of FHS.  The wonderful aspect of taking the bus is your student will always be on time for their classes at both locations.

Any further questions about DCTC and their programming can be directed toward Jerry Pfau, School Counselor ([email protected]) or Dan Pickens, Principal ([email protected]).

Parent Contact Information, Consent to Publish, and Emergency Contact Form

Prior to coming to one of the scheduled pick up days, please check Family Web Access and verify that all contact information is correct.  If you need to make any changes you can now do that online.  It is important that FHS has up to date phone numbers and email addresses in order to stay connected with families.  All FHS information will be pushed out via email to families so please make sure this is updated.

Parents who would like to deny their consent to publish their student’s work must also complete an online form.  This form only needs to be completed if you don’t want your student's picture or work to be used publicly.

Deny Consent to Publish

Emergency Contact Information can now also be updated online using your Family Web Access account.

Health Office and Immunization Information

Our FHS Nurses will be available at our FHS Back to School days to ask any questions or drop off medications for the year.  If you would like to contact any of our nurses ahead of time, it would be best to connect with Sarya Maberry, our district nurse.

One important note for ALL INCOMING SENIORS is the requirement to have the Meningococcal Booster shot up to date in order to attend school in person.  Information about that can be found on the attached letter from our nursing department:

MENINGOCOCCAL BOOSTER LETTER: summer letter 2022.pdf

First Day of School

  • The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 6th for ALL 9th GRADERS ONLY.
  • The first day of school for ALL OTHER  STUDENTS will be Wednesday, September 7th.

For the 9th Graders first day, on September 6th, the FHS Link Crew will plan a day of fun activities, orientation, school tours,  and much more.  Buses will run their regular routes and times.  9th graders will start their day at the normal starting time of 8:15 am.

The first day of school for ALL STUDENTS, September 7th, will be a normal daily schedule and teachers will mostly be running through what to expect from their classes, communicating specific materials needed, and also allow for time and space to get to know their new students.

Students enrolled in the DCTC program will attend classes starting on Wednesday, September 7th.

FHS Daily & Weekly Schedule

Our FHS Daily Schedule will look a little different this year.  We have learned what supports and structure our FHS students need coming back to school after COVID and have a change to our daily schedule to reflect that.  We are very excited that we were able to make these adjustments based on student and teacher feedback.

The buses will run the same time, the students start and end their day about the same time, it is just what they will experience while they are here that will be a little bit different.  The thing that I think people will like the most about our new daily schedule is that it is the same time EVERY DAY.  There are no more FLEX/NO FLEX weeks or days, same consistent schedule each day.  We do have a 30m chunk of time in the middle of the day that we will use flexibly depending on the day, but it is still required for students each day.  There will be a lot more communication about the details of the schedule and how we use certain times, but for now here is what to expect.

Other important events happening will be communicated via weekly emails by the Principal and also on the FHS Website.

Thank you very much for your support in Farmington High School.  There will no doubt be more information pushed out in the coming weeks about the beginning of school, but this will get you started.  If you do not find your answer here, please do not hesitate to reach out anytime.

Have a great last few weeks of summer, and we are looking forward to a great start of the 2022-23 school year!!
