The Diversity Club has been part of Farmington High School for over 16 years. The mission of Diversity Club is to learn about and celebrate the many cultures represented in our building, in our community, and in the world. All students are welcome to join no matter their race, religion, or political belief. Ron Williams, one of the advisors and founders of the club at FHS, describes Diversity Club as “a cross-section of the student body and community in Farmington.” Every student is valued and brings a unique perspective to discussions. The club found safe ways to meet while in hybrid and have now been meeting online two times per week instead of the usual one time per week.

This year has been a challenge to say the least. We’ve been talking about the pandemic, about George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many more. We’ve talked about the election and the insurrection. We’ve talked about issues in our building that our students experience firsthand. Students show us their energy and passion and knowledge about systemic issues in our country. These conversations are difficult, uncomfortable, and important to have. This month, students and advisors in Diversity Club created a video about what Black History Month means to them. The club encourages you all to watch the video, personally reflect, and celebrate Black history because Black history is American history.

You can view the video here.  Enjoy!
