Every year wrestling coaches from each high school section in Minnesota vote on their respective Section Head and Assistant Coach of the Year. Head coach selections are then put on a ballot to be voted on by all coaches at the State Tournament for Class AAA, AA, and A Coach of the Year. This year Farmington High School’s Chad Olson and Henry Gerten won the distinction of Class AAA Wrestling Coaches of the Year.

The performance of the 2014-2015 Farmington High School Wrestling Team stands as a testament to their great work this season. For the first time in school history the team went to the State Wrestling Tournament. In addition they set or broke several records this season, including:

  • 3 Place winners (ties the school record)
  • 2 State Finalists (a new school record)
  • Taylor Venz broke the school record for Career Wins with 158 wins. (Coach Olson held the previous record of 155 Wins.)
  • 25 Dual Wins in a season (a new school record)
  • 3 Wrestlers with 40+ Wins (a new school record)
  • Qualified for Team State (a school first)
  • Placed 6th in Team Tournament
  • Placed 5th in Individual Tournament with 62.5 point (Last year they were 9th with 51 points.)

Coach Olson wrote on his blog, “This is one of those seasons that as a coach you don’t want to end!”

Farmington High School and Farmington Area Public Schools are proud of the hard work and exemplary performance by our wrestling coaches and student-athletes. Here’s to many more wonderful seasons.
