Chelsea Gehrke, daughter of Steve and Tracy Gehrke, has been named the winner of the 2016 Athena Award for Farmington High School. The St. Paul Area Athena Awards program honors female high school seniors for their athletic achievements. Chelsea has been a member of the Swim and Dive Team since 8th grade and has lettered a total of five times. She was awarded all conference four times and has received the all state award twice, including her senior year. In addition, during her high school athletic career Chelsea set a new school record in the 200m Freestyle Relay, 100m Butterfly, and 100m Breaststroke. She set a Section 1AA record in the 100m Breaststroke and won Section 1AA Swimmer of the Year.

Chelsea also excels academically. She is a member of the National Honor Society, has earned an academic letter twice, and volunteers as a math and writing tutor. When she isn’t in class or at the pool, she participates in the Yellow Ribbon Club, LINK Crew, and the Farmington High School Wind Ensemble.  Outside of school, she is an American Red Cross Lifeguard and Swim Instructor and volunteers with Special Olympics Swimming.  Chelsea plans to study mathematics at St. Cloud State University in the fall.
