Official Start Date:

Historically the high school girls’ hockey program (V/JV teams) has included various numbers of 7th and 8th graders, however it has been the intent of both the Farmington Athletics Department and Farmington Athletics Girls Hockey to develop and establish a program where the high school hockey program levels (V/JV) are made up primarily of 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.  We are excited with the efforts of youth hockey as we continue to see larger number of student-athlete participants in girls hockey.  With the participation increases, the challenge becomes making sure we have systems/structures created that allow us to maximize the participation opportunities for student-athletes.  In collaboration with the Farmington Youth Hockey Association, the Farmington Athletics Department and the Farmington Athletics Girls Hockey program would like to recommend the following as it pertains primarily to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade girls hockey participants:

Although the grade level eligibility, per MSHSL rules, for the high school girls hockey program is listed as (Grades 7-12), the girls hockey varsity and junior varsity program will be rostered primarily with student-athletes in grades 9-12.  Student-athletes in 7th and 8th grade are welcome to register and tryout with the high school program, but their participation in the high school program would be primarily as a varsity caliber participant.  Student-athletes in 9th grade will be eligible to be rostered at both the varsity and junior varsity level.   Student-athletes in 9th grade are also eligible to be rostered on the 14U team.  With the number of participants at the high school level being finite, we will have to assess our needs and capabilities for both the varsity and JV team's when tryouts commence.  Thus, we are not able to say that all 9th grade student-athletes will be guaranteed a spot on the high school roster.  As the high school and youth programs continue to grow our situation will continue to be re-evaluated and adjusted.

The recommendation for non-returning high school student-athletes in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade would be to complete all Farmington Youth Hockey registration material by the deadline to insure that you have a hockey participation opportunity.  If you are then interested in trying out for the Farmington Athletics High School Girls Hockey program, you would need to complete the Farmington School District athletics registration material and participate in tryouts.  If based on this high school program tryout and the above mentioned guidelines you are not viewed as a varsity and/or junior varsity student-athlete, you would then return to your participation in Farmington Youth Hockey.

All student-athletes interested in participating in girls hockey must be completely registered with the Athletics Department prior to any participation. It is highly recommended that you register prior to the official start date. In addition, please make all necessary arrangements to be in attendance on the official start date in the event that participation numbers result in team tryouts at the Varsity & JV levels. All student-athletes must meet appropriate MSHSL and ISD 192 eligibility requirements. If you have questions on athletic eligibility, please contact the Athletics Director.
